About a dozen Philadelphians gather in the hazy spring heat across from the Penn Museum. They carry signs that say: "Return the remains!" and "Repatriate Now!" Black Philadelphians express their desire to rebury their ancestors: a couple dozen skulls from enslaved Africans out of Cuba and 15 Black Philadelphian skulls looted from burial grounds in the city that for decades were part of the vast Samuel George Morton Crania Collection. Their origins made public knowledge in 2021, Philadelphians demand their return.
